Visitor information

Overview

These sister bridges are in the Bridleways Estate, in our hometown of Cambridge, Aotearoa New Zealand.

Both pedestrian bridges are made of glulaminated timber beams – they’re super strong and look beautiful, especially with all the native planting growing up around them.

The bridges promise to enhance the recreational experience for families, nature enthusiasts, and the entire community. The Bridleways bridges are not just a pathway but a gateway to adventure, connecting us to the stunning landscapes and vibrant outdoor activities that Cambridge has to offer.

Where to find the bridges

These bridges are both part of the Bridleways Estate in Cambridge.

You can find them near the intersection of Te Aranui Avenue and Tangaroa Street, connecting the playground and destination recreation area with the rest of the estate.

Technical information

The Bridleways Bridges are two pedestrian glulaminated timber beam bridges of 45 m and 30 m length.

Each is created using a combination of 15 m spans, which were designed for easy lifting into place with cranes, which minimises working at height.

Designed to NZS1170 and Outdoor Visitor Structures Guide, and to the latest version of the NZ Timber Code (2024).

DC Structures Studio also designed the weathering steel pole sleeves, an architectural detail that adds to the overall feel of the bridges.

This is designed to be a cost-effective, replicable design solution. We have already undertaken new projects following similar designs.
