In 2018 we worked with Waitomo District Council to come up with cost effective options to rejuvenate an existing footbridge in Te Kuiti. The options were focused on rehabilitating the existing structural members whilst showcasing vibrant and playful living. The scheme was set to cost ¼ of the full bridge replacement fee.
In this particular instance Council decided to pursue the full replacement option. However, we feel this is a good example of what could be done with aging infrastructure when careful thought and consideration is applied. We are now on the look-out for other structures in 2019 that are in need of some love. If you are a Council with a tired and aging bridge we urge you to think first whether you can rejuvenate that asset. You will find this to be more cost effective for rate payers and more importantly, a far more sustainable approach to how we all live.
